Boryeong Mud Festival

July 16th was the 14th Annual Mud Fest in Boryeong. I think this tradition originated because the mud was considered healthy for your skin and they went to indulge in its benefits. Eventually, this festival turned into one massive foreigner party. I think about 85% of the foreigners in Korea go to Mud Fest. It is held on a beach and everyone just gets covered from head to toe in mud and go on rides, go swimming, and there was even bands like a concert. It was all day and night and pure chaos. The rain stopped by noon is and the rest of the day was pure sunshine. Everyone got sunburned including myself and I spent all day today rubbing fresh aloe vera straight out of the plant onto my skin. It is already feeling much much better. Here are some photos from the event!

Lotte World Field Trip

Friday we took our kindergartner's to the a ball pit play area at the local "Walmart". They had a lot of fun playing for an hour here. They also got to bring money to spend on toys, candy, etc. We took them shopping for a bit too! Andrew, one of my students was waiting in line to buy his puzzle and stickers when all of a sudden he pulled on my shirt and said "Sarah teacher, I have to go the bathroom". I could see it in his eyes that this was an emergency! I hurried to give him to a male teacher to go to the bathroom but it was already too late. Andrew pooh poohed his pants and Wonderland had to buy him new shorts! Poor kid. He did seem to be over it and play with everyone after so I guess it wasnt a big deal to him haha.

Experiment #1 Body Butter

A few weeks back, my friends and I made our first batch of homemade body butter. We used olive oil, peppermint oil, and shea butter. Here are the photos of the process. The container lasted me two weeks and was quite simple and cheap to make.

Edward

We made a list of guy names because my boss' husband that is always at school too wanted to have an English name. He chose Edward which is one of the names I picked. I am not a huge Edward name fan but he needed a dignified adult name and Edward suits him. So now we have Michelle and Edward. Rumour has it we might have some new kids coming after the summer break so hopefully we will ge to name some of them. Its my favorite part of my job! haha

DMZ and rafting

This last Saturday some of my friends and I took a day trip to the DMZ and we went rafting. The DMZ was very beautiful. Lots of untouched land for the past 50 years so its just very lush and full of nature. We toured an underground tunnel the North Koreans made in the 70s to invade but the South Koreans heard something and caught them doing it. Now it is a big tourist attraction amongst the 3 other tunnels. Rafting was a lot of fun too but it was not challenging at all as there where barely any rapids but it still was fun. Here are some photos of the trip.

July sing and dance part 3

Below are videos of most of the songs our kids did this month. The winners were Forest who sang "Lemon Tree" and Ocean (my class) who sang the bug song and make new friends. All the classes are getting better and better with their singing ability its awesome. We also had student of the month again and two of my students got it. Andre and James! Wooo I was very excited for them. I have no idea what songs to teach for August so if you have any suggestions email me or facebook me! i have 8 more times of doing this! I have some new elementary classes now and lost some of my old ones. My two new classes are very smart compared to my old classes. They started in English kindergarten so they have more years of English uner their belts. Very cute, and I am enjoying teaching them all. My least favorite class is my 7 year old kindy kids. I think eventually once they learn how to behave better I will like them more. hahaha hopefully thats sooner than later!

The past two weekends I have stayed in my town to try to save money and the weather has also been pretty  rainy. Its typhoon season here and it rains so much! Everyday last week was heavy rain. The south part of korea got hit the worst and I think 9 people died from it! Today is the first beautiful day in about two weeks! So last weekend my friends and I went to a girl in towns farewell celebration. Her friend is a hypnotist and sort of a magician. He did a little performance for a group of us. It was really fun. He hypnotized a few people and did some card tricks and some mind reading tricks. It was pretty cool. He got my friend Jessica to think of a card and then I opened a brand new pack of cards and I made the card she was thinking pop out of the deck. It was really freaky! Then, on Saturday night my friend Ashley had her 25th birthday party. It was supposed to be a cookout but because of the rain we had it in someone apartment. She was really happy and it was a lot of fun too. Then Sunday we just had a movie day and hung out and watched some movies.
The past week at school our manager quit and had her last day on Tuesday. All the teachers and my boss went out to dinner to celebrate? Its really a strange concept. When you quit a job here you still get presents, goodbyes and even a party sometimes! So bizarre. So after the dinner a few of us went with my old manager to get some drinks too. It was a late school night. Then on Friday we had our July birthday party. This month is was all girls celebrating and most of the girls in school wore pretty dresses for the party. It was really adorable. Friday night I was very tired so I went to bed early and I also got to skype with my mom and my nephew. He is so big now! Today I woke up early and am just going to kick it around town. Going to do some rooftop yoga with my friend and tonight probably play scrabble. Nothing too crazy this weekend. I leave for the Philippines on the 30th so I am really trying to save money so I can go scuba diving!!!! Although the next two weekends are going to be busy but we already booked them last month so its already paid for. Saturday I am going to the DMZ and the following weekend is this HUGE mud festival!!!! The whole country will probably be there. I will give you more details on those events when the time comes! Until then...have a HAPPY 4TH OF JULY WEEKEND!!! Wish I could be there, Im not doing anything here to celebrate. Also, I just wanted to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY NANA! !!!!!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY NANA!
